The contrasting form of both clubs suggested an easy victory and a day of celebration for the home crowd, but it cannot be forgotten that Moncho López's side are one of only three teams to have beaten Epi's squad in the league. Furthermore, Obradoiro now has all the pressure of depending absolutely on themselves and needing to win all their remaining games. Logic and the much larger budget prevailed, with the Santiago side sealing the game in the first half.
The different moment of both teams becomes apparent in the first quarter (25-12)
Leo Westermann started with the same level of accuracy he has shown in recent games and opened the scoring with a three-pointer. Barrueta also mimicked what he did in the derby by taking advantage of his strength in the paint. What was unusual was the Cuban's great counterattack, securing a 2+1 to make it 8-0. Galán found Dos Anjos for the Brazilian's first dunk and Moncho López's first timeout. The instructions from the renowned former national team coach helped his team find an open shot, but they missed it and Westermann ran the break with a great pass. Barrueta added his seventh point by making both free throws. McDonnell opened the scoring for the visitors with a three-pointer, but Dos Anjos soon maintained the lead above ten points. Vrabac made a free throw and Fernández scored on the counterattack. The Ourense players were starting to play with more fluidity in scoring, but they couldn't stop Dos Anjos on defense. A spectacular individual play by Barcello energized the Fontes do Sar crowd, who applauded both Barrueta and Munnings on the substitution. Sergi Quintela forced two free throws and put 19-8 on the scoreboard by making just one. Kravic made his debut to extend the lead further. The center repeated on the rebound and put Obradoiro already 15 ahead. Okanu finally put Ourense into double digits, but Kravic scored his third straight basket. Fernández gave the visitors some relief by scoring the last bucket of the quarter.
Obradoiro seals the derby in the first half (49-21)
Holden entered the stat sheet with his first assist for Andersson's three-pointer and Vázquez made his debut with a two-pointer. Okanu made both his free throws and Ourense's defense forced a turnover by Obradoiro. The game experienced moments of poor shooting from both sides, with the home team feeling the logical lack of adaptation from Holden. Westermann came in to solve it, but it was Brito, as a passer, and Munnings, as the scorer with a great three-pointer, who did so first. The Portuguese also opened his scoring account. Another play between Galán and Dos Anjos, though with roles reversed, prompted a COB timeout as they found themselves nearly twenty down (35-16). Munnings continued in great form and appeared on the offensive rebound. McDonnell added a good three-pointer, but the home centers continued to dominate on offense and Dos Anjos drew a foul but missed both free throws. The Jamaican forward added again for Santiago, where Epi was alert to any mistake and called a timeout after a Huguet basket thanks to a Santiago turnover. Sergi Quintela made a three-pointer following instructions and the visitors missed two open shots on the same possession. Barrueta added more damage with his first three-pointer and Barcello joined the party with another great individual play. Dos Anjos put the cherry on top with a great one-on-one against Gill. The game was decided in the first half.
Monbus Obradoiro maintains the lead with COB having several good moments (70-44)
Lisboa finally showed his quality with a great basket to start the second half. McDonnell added two free throws for a 0-4 visitor run. Barrueta cut that bad streak with one of his typical three-pointers and positioned himself as the leading scorer with 13 points. Galán and Gill exchanged baskets, while Lisboa was incisive again and drew a foul. Dos Anjos also went to the line but only made one on a poor free throw day. The game was now foul after foul, which Fernández took advantage of to add two more. Two straight baskets, from Fernández himself and a Lisboa three-pointer, prompted an Epi timeout as the lead dropped below twenty (55-36). Galán scored on the return with a high-quality play, with Obradoiro stealing the ball on Ourense's attack and Barcello capitalizing. Galán himself added the 60th point thanks to a free throw. Fernández added his tenth point, despite the arena scoreboard and the virtual one having denied him two free throws earlier. Another McDonnell basket led to another Epi timeout, who didn't want any complications in what should be a comfortable final quarter. Westermann added two free throws and went to the bench to rest. Munnings continued as usual and scored again off an offensive rebound in a quarter where Obradoiro simply maintained their lead. Sergi Quintela energized the crowd with a good basket and Okanu scored in the paint. Kravic returned the favor with a difficult shot and Brito scored his second basket in a game where Portuguese quality wasn't needed. Vázquez only made one of his free throws, as did Seixas, who made his debut in today's game after being one of the standouts in the first meeting.
Another inconsequential final quarter at Fontes do Sar (94-57)
This season we have seen several final periods of little importance and unfortunately for COB, this derby's was one more. Tra Holden's debut as a scorer was the most notable moment.
