According to Encestando, the Málaga club initially inquired about Jaume Ponsarnau's situation, although the coach is not expected to leave Bilbao Basket. Facing that scenario, Moncho Fernández's name has gained momentum as the main candidate to lead the Unicaja squad.
The Galician coach, with a long track record in Spanish basketball and especially recognized for his time leading Obradoiro and more recently Bàsquet Girona, would fit the profile of an experienced coach with knowledge of the Liga Endesa and the ability to build competitive projects.
