Reporting from Buenos Aires. Nacional defeated Flamengo decisively 94-65, controlling the game from start to finish with no comeback threat. The Montevideo team, coached by Álvaro Ponce, won 9 of 10 games played in the tournament.
Nacional came out with a dominant mentality, with 3 points from Thomas and 2 from Zinaich putting them up 5-1. Flamengo quickly answered with a three-pointer from Johnson, trying to get back into the game. But Zinaich and Thomas converted again for Nacional to make it 8-4, in Flamengo's first attempt to get close. Nacional extended the lead to 12-6 with 4:30 remaining in the opening quarter. Flamengo ran ball movement looking for open shots from Gueiros without success. Closing out the period, the Uruguayans were comfortable with the pace of play, finishing the quarter 23-16.
Over the next 10 minutes, Nacional displayed their game and supremacy on the scoreboard. With aggressive defense, cutting off Flamengo's offensive sets very well, they extended their lead to 46-24 with 2 minutes until halftime. Hernández's team couldn't change things before the break, and the lead stretched to 28 points: 54-26.
Nothing changed in the third quarter. Nacional continued imposing their dominance. Flamengo had no answers on offense and even less on defense. They repeated what happened yesterday against Boca, with only individual attempts and shots from beyond the arc. The team coached by Álvaro Ponce went into the final break up 76-43.
Nothing changed in the fourth quarter either; in fact, the game was on autopilot until the final buzzer, with a final score of 94-65.
