Boston Celtics Dominate 76ers 128-96, Take 3-1 Series Lead as Embiid Returns

PHILADELPHIA. The Boston Celtics defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 128-96 in the NBA playoffs, taking a 3-1 series lead in the first round and overshadowing Joel Embiid's highly anticipated return following an appendectomy. Payton Pritchard led the visiting team with 32 points, while Jayson Tatum contributed 30 points and 11 assists.

Boston Celtics' victory confirmed the dominance displayed throughout much of the series. The green team once again imposed itself by a wide margin and moved one win away from advancing in these NBA playoffs.

The game began with all attention on Joel Embiid, who returned just 17 days after his surgery. The Philadelphia 76ers center scored his team's first eight points, including a powerful two-handed dunk, and tried to energize his home crowd from the opening tip.

But Boston Celtics' response was immediate. With physical defense, rebound control, and excellent offensive ball movement, the visitors began to run away with the game. A deep three-pointer by Payton Pritchard at the end of the first quarter made it 34-18, the first major sign of visiting superiority.

In the second quarter, the Boston Celtics punished second-chance opportunities time and again. The rebound advantage proved decisive and allowed the Massachusetts team to build a 21-point lead at halftime. Boston dominated the glass throughout the night with a dominant 51-30 total rebound count.

The Philadelphia 76ers attempted to respond after halftime, but never found continuity. Tyrese Maxey, too quiet in the first half with only three shot attempts, finished with 22 points, though with no real impact on the scoreboard. Embiid, after his strong start, lost his rhythm and went on to miss seven consecutive shots before completing a three-point play in the third quarter that only cut the deficit to 23.

With the game under control, Boston Celtics accelerated again in the final stretch. Jayson Tatum managed the pace with composure and added 11 assists, while Jaylen Brown contributed 20 points to round out another well-rounded performance from the East Conference's top favorite.

Payton Pritchard was the standout name of the game with 32 points and six three-pointers made within Boston's collective 24 attempts from beyond the arc.

The Boston Celtics will now return home to play Game 5 with a 3-1 series advantage and the opportunity to close out the series against a Philadelphia 76ers team forced into an immediate response to stay alive in the NBA playoffs.
