Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's presence at the head of the best team comes just days after winning his second consecutive MVP award. The Oklahoma City Thunder star received unanimous recognition after leading another spectacular season for the defending NBA champion. The Canadian appeared on all 100 possible ballots for the first team and continues to establish himself as the league's premier competitive force.
Victor Wembanyama is also continuing to accelerate a historic progression. The San Antonio Spurs center appeared on 99 First Team votes after another absolutely dominant season on both sides of the court. His defensive impact already places him among the most impactful players in the world, while offensively he continues to expand his arsenal and responsibility within the Texas franchise's project.
Alongside them returns Nikola Jokic, who despite missing out on the MVP award again signed another monstrous campaign with the Denver Nuggets. Luka Doncic maintains his place among the NBA elite even after a season marked by injuries and the frustrating first-round elimination by the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs.
The big story of the best team is Cade Cunningham. The Detroit Pistons point guard led the franchise's spectacular competitive leap and definitively enters the conversation of the league's great young stars after an outstanding playoff run.
The Second Team All-NBA was comprised of Jalen Brunson, Donovan Mitchell, Jaylen Brown, Kevin Durant, and Kawhi Leonard.
Jalen Brunson was honored after leading the New York Knicks' spectacular run to the Eastern Conference Finals, while Donovan Mitchell continued to carry the offensive load for the Cleveland Cavaliers during another long playoff run.
Kevin Durant also reached another historic milestone by becoming just the twelfth player ever with at least twelve All-NBA selections during his career. Kawhi Leonard and Jaylen Brown complete a second team loaded with experience and established talent.
The Third Team All-NBA was comprised of Tyrese Maxey, Jamal Murray, Jalen Johnson, Chet Holmgren, and Jalen Duren.
All members of the third team achieved their first All-NBA appearance, clearly reflecting the enormous generational shift currently taking place in the competition. Particularly striking is the continued growth of Chet Holmgren, a fundamental piece in the Oklahoma City Thunder's system and increasingly established among the most complete centers in the entire NBA.
The voting also left some very relevant absences. LeBron James was left off the All-NBA teams for only the second time in his 23 seasons in the league after failing to meet the minimum games requirement of 65 contests mandated by league rules. Stephen Curry and Giannis Antetokounmpo also could not qualify for the teams for the same reason.
