The victory represents the largest comeback recorded in an NBA Finals since detailed play-by-play data has been available and leaves the Knicks with three opportunities to close out the series.

What turned out to be an unforgettable night for New York began as an absolute nightmare.

San Antonio came out determined to even the series and delivered what was probably their best offensive performance of the entire Finals. The Spurs quickly took control with a devastating start, building a 12-2 lead that silenced Madison Square Garden from the opening moments.

The visiting three-pointer barrage was relentless. The Texans made 11 of their first 16 three-point attempts and found answers from practically every position. Victor Wembanyama led the attack, while Julian Champagnie, Dylan Harper, De'Aaron Fox, and Devin Vassell punished the home defense time and again.

San Antonio's superiority was so evident that the first quarter ended with a commanding 41-22. Far from slowing down, the Spurs continued to extend their lead during the second period until reaching a 57-32 advantage, on pace for the most dominant offensive display of the series.

At halftime, the visitors led by 27 points, establishing the largest halftime lead by a visiting team in NBA Finals history.

The situation worsened further for the Knicks at the start of the third quarter. When the scoreboard showed 81-52 in San Antonio's favor, the game appeared completely decided. The Garden was stunned and the Spurs seemed headed toward a comfortable victory that would even the series.

But then something began that will be etched in New York franchise history.

The Knicks found energy through defense. New York elevated the intensity, closed spaces, and began forcing turnovers from a Spurs team that gradually lost all the offensive fluidity they had displayed during the first half.

San Antonio scored just 14 points in the entire third quarter and made only 4 of 20 shots in that period. Meanwhile, the Knicks built a 13-0 run that restored hope to Madison Square Garden.

The scoreboard still favored the visitors, but the feeling had completely changed. New York closed the third quarter down just 15 points (90-75) and the atmosphere inside the arena was radically different.

What happened in the final twelve minutes became one of the greatest comebacks ever witnessed in NBA playoff history.

Jalen Brunson took control offensively and led the home comeback with a memorable performance. The point guard finished with 36 points and found answers time and again when the situation seemed to be getting complicated.

Alongside him appeared an extraordinary OG Anunoby, who completed one of the best games of his career with 33 points and multiple decisive plays on both ends of the floor.

As New York grew, San Antonio faded. The Spurs went from making 11 of their first 16 three-pointers to closing the second half with just 3 makes on 17 attempts from beyond the arc. The lead disappeared progressively and the game entered a dramatic finish.

Still, the Texans had opportunities to close out the game. Wembanyama, who finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds, had two free throws with 1:47 remaining while his team led 104-103, but failed to convert them.

The tension increased even more when Stephon Castle was fouled with 30 seconds left and made two free throws that restored San Antonio's lead.

However, the Knicks still had one final possession.

Brunson took responsibility and launched a deep three-pointer seeking the win. The ball softly hit the front of the rim and seemed to bounce away. But then Anunoby appeared. The small forward read the trajectory perfectly, attacked the offensive rebound, and stretching his right arm above everyone, tipped the ball in with just 1.2 seconds remaining.

Madison Square Garden erupted.

San Antonio had no time to react and watched as a 29-point lead became one of the most painful losses in recent franchise history.

Beyond Brunson's 36 points and Anunoby's 33, the Knicks once again demonstrated extraordinary competitive ability. This same team had already rallied from 22 points down against Cleveland during the Eastern Conference Finals, and now they've raised the bar even higher.

For the Spurs, Wembanyama finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Dylan Harper contributed 21 points and both Fox and Vassell added 18 each. However, their spectacular first half was completely overshadowed by a second half in which San Antonio was outscored 58-30.

The Knicks will now travel to Texas with a 3-1 series lead and three opportunities to close out the NBA Finals. San Antonio, meanwhile, needs a historic comeback to prevent New York from lifting the Larry O'Brien trophy for the first time in more than half a century.
