However, everything changed drastically in the second quarter. Oklahoma City opened the period with a devastating 17-0 run that completely broke the Lakers' offensive rhythm. JJ Redick was forced to call two timeouts in just one minute trying to stop his team's offensive collapse.

The Lakers could not score until LeBron James converted two free throws with 5:38 remaining until halftime. Still, the Los Angeles team managed to stay relatively close on the scoreboard and trailed just 49-45 at the break.

The second half was the most competitive of the entire series for Los Angeles. Oklahoma City Thunder came out strong after the break with a 10-4 run, also taking advantage of several consecutive turnovers by the Lakers.

But this time the Los Angeles squad did find answers. Rui Hachimura punished from beyond the arc, LeBron James continued playing despite limping to the locker room at halftime after twisting his right ankle, and Austin Reaves provided crucial points to sustain the home comeback.

The Lakers even accomplished something unprecedented in this series: winning a third quarter against the Thunder. JJ Redick's team closed the period with an 84-80 advantage, marking the first time in all these NBA playoffs that Oklahoma City trailed heading into the fourth quarter.

However, the champion responded as they have been doing throughout the postseason. Jared McCain connected on two crucial three-pointers in the decisive stretch, and the second one tied the game at 92 points.

From there, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander appeared once again. The Canadian star began to assume offensive responsibility and found consistent support from Ajay Mitchell to sustain the visiting attack.

The Lakers still had one last comeback attempt. A 2+1 from Marcus Smart put Los Angeles ahead 95-94 with 40 seconds remaining and completely energized the Crypto.com Arena.

But Oklahoma City responded immediately with a decisive play from Chet Holmgren, who received the ball completely alone under the basket to slam it home and restore the Thunder's lead. The Lakers never regained the advantage.

Austin Reaves had a three-pointer to tie the game afterward, but the shot bounced off the rim. From there, Oklahoma City secured the victory from the free throw line and definitively closed out the series.

With the sweep, Oklahoma City Thunder remains undefeated in these NBA playoffs and continues advancing with authority in their bid to repeat as champions.
