NBA Roundup: Wembanyama, Gilgeous-Alexander and Dončić Headline Wednesday Night

Por ·

Wednesday featured fourteen games and a performance that will be remembered for a long time: Wembanyama's display against the Mavericks. The night also included high-level matchups in the East, two overtimes, and several standout individual performances. For Spanish basketball, the positive note once again came from Aday Mara, increasingly established in the Thunder's rotation.

Mara Back in Thunder's Rotation

Cavaliers 116-124 Thunder. Oklahoma City repeated their victory over Cleveland, this time at home, doing so with a dominant first quarter of 37-20 that set the tone for the game. The Cavaliers closed the gap with a 42-point fourth quarter, but never threatened the result. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander surpassed 40 again, finishing with 42 points and 8 assists, while Ajay Mitchell added 23. Mara played 25 minutes off the bench and recorded 9 points on 4-of-6 shooting, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists, in another productive night in the paint for a Thunder team still without Chet Holmgren. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers with 27 points.

Mavericks 111-112 Spurs. The Frenchman set career highs in points (52), rebounds (24), and blocks (8) in the same game. In the first half alone, he recorded 29 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks—something no one had done in a half since play-by-play records began—and the Spurs went into halftime with a 17-point lead. Dallas mounted a comeback in the second half with Kyrie Irving (29) and Naji Marshall (22), but Irving missed the three-pointer that could have won it with three seconds remaining. The Spurs extend their winning streak to six. Santi Aldama, who was questionable, did not make his Mavericks debut, and Sergio de Larrea remains sidelined.

Hugo González Shines in Celtics Victory Without Tatum

Bucks 102-109 Celtics. Boston, resting Jayson Tatum for the first time this season, decided the game in the first half (62-41) and weathered the Bucks' third-quarter surge (25-38). Paul George (25) and Derrick White (24) led the Celtics, while Hugo González added 4 points and 2 rebounds in 14 minutes. Payton Pritchard missed the final quarter due to an abrasion on his right eye. Tyler Herro scored 25 for a Bucks team still struggling in the East.

76ers Win Battle of East Leaders

Joel Embiid added 26 points and 15 rebounds, while LeBron James nearly recorded a triple-double (13, 10, and 8). The Pistons, who trailed by 16 at the end of the third quarter, fought back with Duncan Robinson (27 points, seven three-pointers) and Cunningham (26 and 11 assists). The 76ers improve to 8-1.

Two Overtimes

Heat 117-116 Clippers (OT). Bam Adebayo (35 points and 10 rebounds), Klay Thompson (30, with eight three-pointers), and Giannis Antetokounmpo (27 and 14 rebounds) led the Heat to victory in overtime, after rallying from a 43-point second quarter by the Clippers. Darius Garland scored 26 for the Los Angeles team, which falls to 1-7. Baba Miller played 6 minutes and scored 2 points.

Jazz 113-120 Pelicans (OT). Keyonte George recorded 39 points and 9 assists for the Jazz, who won the third quarter 43-28, but the Pelicans tied it in the fourth and dominated overtime (9-16). Zion Williamson (23), Saddiq Bey (22), and Dejounte Murray, in his return, led New Orleans to 4-4.

Timberwolves 117-107 Rockets. Minnesota won the final quarter 35-23 in Houston, with Ayo Dosunmu (21), LaMelo Ball (20), and 19 points from Bones Hyland off the bench. Kevin Durant (21) and Alperen Şengün (17 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists) could not prevent the Rockets' second loss.
