Santi Aldama will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, the Memphis Grizzlies officially announced.
The procedure will be accompanied by an orthobiologic injection, a treatment designed to alleviate the discomfort the player has been experiencing in the trochlear compartment of his knee, according to a statement released by the franchise.
The Spanish international has not played since February 4, when he began to be ruled out of the rotation due to persistent pain in that area. For now, Memphis has not set a specific timeline for his return to action, as the recovery period will be evaluated once the surgery is completed.
Prior to the injury, Aldama was having the most productive season of his NBA career. In 43 games played with the Grizzlies, he was averaging 14.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 27.9 minutes per game.
His progress was also reflected in offensive efficiency, with a 47.9% field goal percentage and 35.0% from three-point range, both marks higher than what he had shown in previous seasons.
Among his most notable performances of the season was his offensive explosion in December against Utah, when he reached 37 points, one of the best scoring nights of his career.
It should be noted that last summer Aldama remained with Memphis following restricted free agency, signing a three-year, $52.5 million contract with the Tennessee franchise.
