may 29 2026SAN ANTONIO. The San Antonio Spurs dominated the Oklahoma City Thunder 118-91 in Game 6 of the NBA Western Conference Finals, tying the series and forcing a decisive Game 7. Led by a spectacular Victor Wembanyama, who recorded 28 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks, the Texans bounced back from their Game 5 loss and keep their NBA Finals dream alive.
With the victory, the series travels back to Oklahoma City for a Game 7 that will determine which team faces the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.
San Antonio took the court with completely different energy than shown two days earlier. From the opening minutes, Victor Wembanyama set the tone of the game. The French star made his first two shots, both three-pointers, and also delivered a spectacular block on a Shai Gilgeous-Alexander penetration just over a minute into the game.
That start allowed the Spurs to quickly build a lead and take emotional control of the game. Wembanyama dominated both ends of the floor and closed the first quarter with 11 points, five rebounds, one assist and one block, leading a team that played with maximum intensity from the opening tip.
Oklahoma City Thunder tried to stay close during the first half, but never found offensive rhythm. The return of Jalen Williams, absent from the previous three games after suffering a muscle injury in the second game of the series, did not have the expected impact. The wing managed just one point in 10 minutes of play.
After halftime came the moment that definitively decided the game. When the score still offered some hope for the visitors, San Antonio put together a devastating 22-point run. Oklahoma City went scoreless for more than eight minutes during the third quarter, an offensive drought that allowed the Spurs to surge to 92-64 with less than a minute remaining in the period.
Texan defense was the major differentiating factor. Gilgeous-Alexander, MVP and offensive leader of the defending champion, was held to just 15 points on a quiet 6-of-18 shooting. Without offensive fluidity and unable to find answers against the home team's aggression, the Thunder watched as the game slipped away definitively.
Beyond Wembanyama's stellar performance, San Antonio found valuable production from Dylan Harper, who contributed 18 points, and Stephon Castle, who added 17. Devin Vassell chipped in 12 points and also delivered two spectacular blocks that symbolized the defensive intensity of the home team.
For Oklahoma City Thunder, Chet Holmgren finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds, though he could never change the course of a game clearly dominated by the Spurs.
The series maintained the physical and tense tone that has characterized it from the start. One of the hottest moments came in the second quarter, when Holmgren and Vassell exchanged shoves and words after a spectacular block by the San Antonio player on an attempted dunk by the visiting big man.
Victor Wembanyama remains the star of the three San Antonio Spurs victories in this Western Finals. With his performance of 28 points and 10 rebounds, the Frenchman joined legends David Robinson and Tim Duncan as the only players in franchise history with at least five playoff games of 25 points and 10 rebounds in the same postseason.
Now everything will be decided in Game 7 on Saturday in Oklahoma City. The winner will claim the Western Conference title and host the New York Knicks next Wednesday for the first game of the NBA Finals.
