Eight Liga Endesa Teams Represented in Spain National Team Roster

Up to eight different Liga Endesa teams represented in Chus Mateo's latest national team call-up. A window of returns, with the July 2 clash against Denmark as the first fixture

Hugo González, small forward for the Boston Celtics, is the main addition to Spain's roster for matches against Denmark and Georgia, corresponding to the third and final qualifying window for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar, as announced Thursday by national team head coach Chus Mateo.

The Madrid native, developed through Real Madrid's youth academy, where he took his first professional steps before making the jump to the U.S. league, already made his debut with the Spanish national team in February 2025, in a qualifying match for EuroBasket against Latvia in Riga.

Since his move to the NBA, he had not returned to 'La Familia,' to which he now returns after gaining "experience" and undergoing a process of "maturity," according to statements made by Mateo at an event held at Endesa's central headquarters in Madrid.

Thus, the complete roster, in addition to González, is made up of: Francis Alonso (Río Breogán), Ferran Bassas (BAXI Manresa), Álvaro Cárdenas and Jaime Pradilla (Valencia Basket), Pierre Oriola (BAXI Manresa), Oriol Paulí (Hiopos Lleida), Santi Yusta (Casademont Zaragoza), Willy Hernangómez, Darío Brizuela and Joel Parra (Barcelona), Izan Almansa (Real Madrid), Alberto Díaz (Unicaja) and Mario Saint-Supéry (Gonzaga Bulldogs).

Thus, Alberto Díaz, sidelined by injury in the second window, also returns with the national team, as does Willy Hernangómez, who does so as captain.

Among the most notable absences is Santi Aldama, of the Memphis Grizzlies, out since March after undergoing arthroscopy for discomfort in his right knee.

The Spanish team will face Denmark on July 2 at the Caja Mágica in Madrid, and Georgia three days later in Tbilisi. Both matches will close the third and final window in the first phase of qualifying for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar.

'La Familia' will gather on Monday, June 29.
