OKLAHOMA CITY. The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 125-107 and takes a commanding 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinals of the NBA playoffs. Chet Holmgren and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the defending champion with 22 points each in another dominant collective performance by the Thunder.
The Thunder continues to display dominant form in this postseason and improves to a perfect 6-0 in the NBA playoffs. In addition to Holmgren and Gilgeous-Alexander, Ajay Mitchell contributed 20 points and Jaren McCain added 18 for a team that once again exposed the defensive limitations of a Lakers squad severely hampered by injuries.
The Los Angeles Lakers faced the game once again without Luka Dončić, who remains indefinitely sidelined with a left hamstring injury. Additionally, Jarred Vanderbilt was unable to play after suffering a right hand injury during Game 1. This was compounded by the accumulation of fouls on several key players, which ultimately severely limited the Lakers' defensive aggressiveness down the stretch.
Unlike the first game of the series, the Lakers did find better offensive rhythm for much of the night. Austin Reaves bounced back from his poor initial performance and posted 31 points with an excellent 10-of-16 shooting from the field. LeBron James added 23 points and kept the visiting team competitive for much of the contest.
The game started much more evenly than the first matchup. Oklahoma City Thunder found advantages through ball movement and offensive pace, while the Los Angeles Lakers managed to respond thanks to Reaves' three-point shooting and LeBron's ability to attack the paint.

The Lakers' best opportunity came at the start of the third quarter. With the score at 63-61 in favor of the Lakers, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander committed his fourth personal foul following a play that was reviewed by the officials, who upgraded the infraction to a flagrant foul type 1 for the contact on the follow-through of the play against Austin Reaves. During the review, Alex Caruso was also assessed a technical foul.
The departure of Gilgeous-Alexander appeared to open an important window for the Los Angeles Lakers, but the opposite occurred. Oklahoma City Thunder reacted spectacularly even without their star player on the court.
Mark Daigneault's team completely changed the game with an explosive offensive run led by Chet Holmgren and the home bench. On a fast break, Holmgren found Jaylin Williams arriving open for a three-pointer. The big man scored from beyond the arc, drew the foul and completed the and-one to make it 85-74.
That stretch proved decisive. Oklahoma City dominated the entire third quarter and posted a 32-15 run while Gilgeous-Alexander rested due to foul trouble, closing the period with an 93-80 advantage.
The Los Angeles Lakers still attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter and managed to cut the deficit to just five points, but the Thunder responded immediately. Holmgren continued to dominate near the rim, Gilgeous-Alexander regained offensive control, and Oklahoma City closed out the game without excessive drama.
Chet Holmgren continues to establish himself as one of the standout figures of these NBA playoffs, while Oklahoma City Thunder keeps demonstrating enormous roster depth even without relying exclusively on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
The series now travels to Los Angeles for Game 3, where the Lakers will need to get healthy and find urgent defensive solutions if they want to avoid being on the brink of elimination in the Western Conference semifinals.
