Olympiacos Close to Signing John Konchar

Olympiacos has chosen its wing reinforcement. The Piraeus club is very close to finalizing the arrival of John Konchar on a two-year deal worth $3 million, according to BeBasketball. While no definitive agreement has been reached yet, negotiations have advanced significantly in recent days.

Less than a week ago, the same outlet reported that Olympiacos was studying two NBA options: Konchar and Ochai Agbaji. Ultimately, they've opted for the former, who also attracted interest from Real Madrid. The search for an additional wing began following the situation with Tyler Dorsey, who was sidelined by the team after his social media criticism regarding his role and playing time.

A specialist without the ball

Konchar doesn't arrive to monopolize shot attempts. His value lies in defense, rebounding, and the ability to contribute without needing many possessions—a profile that fits a team with as much offensive talent as Georgios Bartzokas'. He can play shooting guard and small forward, and his rebounding is unusual for a player standing 1.96 meters tall.

Last season he started with the Memphis Grizzlies and finished with the Utah Jazz. Between the two teams, he played 56 games and averaged 4.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in nearly 20 minutes per night. This summer he signed with the New York Knicks but was cut before the season started and had been a free agent since late September.

Konchar went undrafted in the 2019 Draft but earned a spot with the Grizzlies, where he spent most of his career. In seven NBA seasons, he has played 363 regular season games, averaging 4.3 points, 4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. Olympiacos would be his first team outside the United States.
