Partizan Accelerates Pursuit of Kobi Simmons as Baskonia Renewal Cools

Kobi Simmons' future appears to be moving away from Baskonia and increasingly toward Partizan Belgrade. The American point guard had his renewal with the Vitoria-based club well advanced since mid-April in a deal that would have included a two-year contract

The situation, however, has changed in recent weeks. Simmons was expecting to obtain an EU passport this summer after participating with a national team in the FIBA World Cup qualifying windows, a move that would have allowed Baskonia to free up a non-EU roster spot in the Liga Endesa and greatly facilitate squad planning.

But the scenario took a turn after the player changed agencies. According to our sources, that EU passport would no longer arrive within the expected timeframe, a circumstance that has caused Baskonia to now be much more reluctant to finalize his continuation while occupying a non-EU roster spot.

In the midst of this uncertainty, Partizan Belgrade has emerged as a strong contender, already actively negotiating with the player. The Serbian club is not the only interested party, though it is one of the clubs that appears most determined to pursue the American point guard for the upcoming season.
