The Polish player, who debuted in Liga Endesa as a Betis player at age 16 nearly a decade ago, signs a two-year contract with Bàsquet Girona. Andrzej Pluta comes off winning MVP honors in Poland in both the regular season and finals
Andrzej Pluta (Ruda Śląska, Poland, June 3, 2000) is the new player for Bàsquet Girona for the next two seasons. The point guard-shooting guard, standing 1.90 meters tall, arrives from Legia Warszawa.
Developed at TKM Włocławek through the 2013-14 season, he later played one season at Estudiantes before joining Real Betis Energía Plus in the 2015-16 campaign. On November 27, 2016, he became the youngest player to debut with the Andalusian club in Liga Endesa, at 16 years, 5 months and 24 days, surpassing Leo Cizmic's record. He currently still ranks among the youngest players to have debuted in the competition. In October 2018, he was loaned to COB in the LEB Oro to cover the long-term absence of Pol Molins, and remained there through the end of the 2019-20 season.
The 2020-21 season he returned to Poland to play for Anwil Wloclawek, before stints at Enea Astoria Bydgoszcz, Trefl Sopot, and Asseco Arka Gdynia. The last two seasons he has played for Legia Warszawa. In the most recent campaign, he appeared in 28 regular season games, averaging 12.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists, with a rating of 13. This performance earned him the distinction of Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the regular season in the ORLEN Basket Liga.
Pluta was also one of the standout performers in the Polish league playoffs, where Legia Warszawa won the championship after prevailing 4-3 in the finals series. The Polish point guard was named MVP of the finals after recording 15 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds in the decisive game. However, his most impressive performance came in the second game of the series, when he scored 27 points and dished out 9 assists.
With Legia Warszawa, he also competed this season in the Basketball Champions League (BCL). In the six games he played in the European competition, he averaged 15.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists, with an average rating of 12.7.
On the international stage, Pluta has represented Poland at the U16 and U18 levels and made his senior national team debut on November 10, 2022, in the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers. In 2023 he participated in a pre-Olympic tournament between Poland and Estonia. In 2025 he competed in both the qualifiers and final round of EuroBasket, held between August and September in Cyprus, Finland, Poland and Latvia. In this championship, where the Polish national team finished in sixth place, he averaged 7.7 points, 1 rebound and 3.7 assists in seven games played. His most recent appearance with the Polish national team came in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
San Emeterio: "Ambition and Desire to Take This Step"
"We've been following this player in the Polish league for a couple of years. We believe he is on a clear upward trajectory and at an ideal moment of maturity to take this big step toward Liga Endesa. He is a player with good size for his position. When he was younger he was more oriented to play shooting guard, but in Poland he has experienced very positive evolution that has allowed him to establish himself as a point guard. This season he has played practically full-time in this position with Legia, being the team leader and setting the pace of games."
"He has won both the regular season title and the finals title. He has the ability to generate for his teammates: his first instinct is to get others involved, but he also has great scoring ability in key moments and is capable of creating his own shots, both near the basket and from the perimeter. For all these reasons, we believe he fits perfectly with the profile we are looking for: a player with ambition, with the desire to take this step and with great enthusiasm about joining Bàsquet Girona."
