Río Breogán Dominates Monbus Obradoiro with Spectacular Third Quarter (90-110)

Por ·

Fontes do Sar was preparing to be the stage for the first Galician derby in this historic season. Monbus Obradoiro and Río Breogán arrived with a strong start translated into 3 wins and 2 losses. The feelings had deteriorated somewhat due to the two consecutive defeats for Casimiro's team and the thrashing received by Epi's squad in Tenerife. The moments before the start had a festive atmosphere with reunions, especially hugs for Víctor Pérez and the duel to witness between the Quintela brothers. The first half was tremendously even until the final minute, when Breogán managed to pull away by seven points. The third quarter defined the game with a dominant run by the Lugo side. The home warriors supported by the crowd managed to cut it close, but Breogán's quality and accuracy returned to start the final period twenty points ahead. The celebration in this second half was only for the visitors.

A quarter marked by near-total parity (22-20)

The game began with a very low-scoring start for both sides. The home attack was sluggish and the Lugo side wasn't hitting their open shots or Kasibabu's options in the paint. Accuracy appeared with three-pointers from Barcello and Childress, added to Soriano's work in the paint, while for the visitors Tevin Brown and Mavra led the offense. A spectacular basket from Sergi Quintela closed the quarter with an advantage for the Santiago side.

Parity holds until the final minute when Breogán pulls away (43-50)

Soriano continued to be the main local scorer and had help from the contributions of Agada and Barrueta. The quarter moved between ties and continuous lead changes. For the Lugo side, the spotlight was on three-pointers from Andric and Peris, plus some flashes from Alonso and Bolton. The final minute was very negative for the home team, with Brankovic finishing a play for Casimiro to put his team up by 7.

Breogán Overwhelms Obradoiro in This Quarter and Decides the Game (62-82)

The Lugo team started overwhelmingly with Brown and Alonso combining for 18 points in this period. Obradoiro seemed unable to stop that scoring onslaught until Epi put his warriors on the court who managed to cut it and lower the lead to twelve points, with chances to reduce it further. But the home inaccuracy returned and the visitors' accuracy to end the quarter twenty points ahead.

Obradoiro Tries But Cannot Match a Superior Breogán (90-110)

Obradoiro was not willing to give up the game and with Agada, Soriano, Barcello and Barrueta managed to cut it to fourteen. Andric appeared with his fourth three-pointer to put an almost unreachable lead back. Obradoiro kept trying, but it was no match against a team with a scoring capacity never seen in the history of Galician basketball. The lead went back over twenty at 74-95 with just over four minutes left, making it clear that Casimiro's team would surpass one hundred points again. Galán cut it with a three-pointer, but the game was decided. Río Breogán showed in the first celebration of Galician basketball that they are well above this Obradoiro, where concerns are beginning about not being able to compete in the last two games and the limited contribution of Brandon Childress in these last two games. Tevin Brown closed the game with a great three-point play that exemplified perfectly what the game had been.
