Sergio De Larrea Ignites Summer League Hopes with Historic Assist Performance

Por ·

Sergio De Larrea continues to deliver promising signs in the Summer League. The point guard from Valladolid was once again the protagonist with the Dallas Mavericks after putting on an impressive playmaking display: 14 assists, a figure within reach of very few in Summer League history.

The Spanish player finished the game with 2 points, 9 rebounds and 14 assists in 26 minutes. He didn't have his best shooting night, going 1 of 8 from the field and 0 of 5 from three-point range, but his impact was evident from the point guard position, finding advantages, pushing the pace and creating shots for his teammates.

The stat carries significant weight: De Larrea becomes the fourth player in Summer League history to reach 14 assists in a single game. A record that confirms his ability to read the game and his capacity to orchestrate from the ball-handling position even in such a physical and chaotic context as the Summer League.

Selected 25th overall in the Draft, De Larrea ultimately ended up in Dallas after his selection passed through the Lakers and Knicks before arriving with the Mavericks. The Texas franchise will back him with a four-year rookie contract, and the player is now preparing for his first full season in the United States.

His overall Summer League numbers also fuel optimism: 8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 8.8 assists in nearly 28 minutes per game. His three-point shooting still needs to improve, at 27% from the field and 20% from three, but his court vision, passing and defensive presence are leaving a very positive impression.

The jump to the NBA won't be easy. Dallas has a deep roster with important playmakers like Kyrie Irving, Nembhard and Cooper Flagg, plus the presence of Santi Aldama. But De Larrea is doing exactly what he needed to do this summer: compete, prove himself reliable with the ball and demonstrate that his playmaking can have a future at the highest level.
