Sergio Llull will continue making history with Real Madrid. The captain will spend another season with the club and face his 21st campaign in the white jersey, according to MARCA.
The agreement was reportedly closed approximately a month ago, before the coaching change. That is, the decision came when Sergio Scariolo was still directing the team, although everything suggests that Pedro Martínez will count on Llull in the squad for the new project.
The Balearic native, who will turn 39 in the coming months, keeps alive one of the longest and most symbolic careers in modern European basketball. He arrived at Real Madrid in 2007 and since then has become one of the great references in the club's recent history.
Last season he played 40 EuroLeague games, averaging 3.1 points and 1.5 assists in 11.1 minutes per game. In the Liga Endesa he had more presence, with 6.9 points and 2.4 assists in 17.1 minutes across 36 games.
His continuity is not measured only in numbers. Llull will continue providing leadership, competitive character, knowledge of the club, and influence within the locker room in a transitional season for Real Madrid.
It will also be his 22nd season in the ACB, as he made his debut in the competition in the 2005/06 season with Manresa. A new chapter for a historic career.
