Sixers Seeking Defensive Point Guard: Caruso, Holiday, and Goodwin Among Targets

The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly exploring the trade market and potential buyouts with a clear objective: acquiring a defensive-minded point guard who can take pressure off Tyrese Maxey and improve the team's perimeter defense.

According to Basketball Ground, Philadelphia would be willing to put multiple first-round draft picks on the table if the right opportunity arises. Among the players being considered are Alex Caruso, Jrue Holiday, and Jordan Goodwin.

Caruso would likely be the option with the greatest defensive impact, though also one of the most difficult to acquire. The Oklahoma City specialist is under contract through 2029 after signing a multi-year extension with the Thunder.

Another particularly attractive name is Jrue Holiday, one of the most proven defensive guards in the NBA. He currently belongs to Portland and is under contract through the 2026/27 season, though recent reports suggested the Blazers have no intention of putting him on the market.

The third possibility would be Jordan Goodwin, who averaged 8.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists with Phoenix and has established himself as an important player for his energy and defense. His acquisition would also not be straightforward: the Suns re-signed the point guard this summer to a three-year, $19 million deal.

Philadelphia's intention appears clear: add a perimeter player capable of taking on the most demanding matchups and allow Maxey to concentrate a greater portion of his efforts on playmaking and scoring. For now, there are no closed negotiations, but the Sixers would be willing to use part of their draft capital to find that profile before the season begins.
