Surne Bilbao Basket Eyes Dan Duscak to Strengthen Point Guard Position

Surne Bilbao Basket is already building its roster for the 2026-27 season. After ending the campaign with a quarterfinal elimination in the Liga Endesa against Valencia Basket, the Basque club has begun making moves with a clear objective: maintain continuity of Jaume Ponsarnau's project and adjust the backcourt rotation, especially at point guard.

The departure of Melwin Pantzar to Unicaja Málaga will force the Miribilla-based team to reorganize its ball handling. Harald Frey is expected to continue as the primary reference at the position, while Adam Somogyi is poised to take on the role of backup point guard, pending official confirmation. To complete that structure, the name gaining momentum is Dan Duscak, a Slovenian point guard from Oviedo in Primera FEB.

According to reports from La Central ACB and Deia, Duscak's arrival at Surne Bilbao Basket is very advanced. The 23-year-old player, born in Ljubljana, would make the jump to the Liga Endesa after three seasons in Oviedo, where he has established himself as one of the most promising point guards in the category.

In the 2025-26 season, Dan Duscak averaged 7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 21 minutes per game. Additionally, his status as a homegrown player fits the Bilbao club's planning, which in recent years has found success with players from Primera FEB, as happened with Frey, Pantzar, Domínguez and Ansorregi.

Duscak was developed in Real Madrid's academy, participated in preseason workouts with the senior team and later played for KK Cedevita Olimpija and Gran Canaria before settling in Oviedo. A full international with Slovenia, he stands out for his court vision, ability to contribute on both ends of the floor and positive evolution in three-point shooting.

Surne Bilbao Basket's plan for next season involves assembling a thirteen-player roster. In that context, Dan Duscak would arrive initially as the third point guard, within a rotation designed to maintain competitive balance without breaking the continuity line set by Jaume Ponsarnau.

The Bilbao club is not preparing a revolution, but rather specific moves to cover important departures and strengthen key positions. The possible signing of Duscak fits that profile: young talent, knowledge of Spanish basketball, room for growth and an opportunity to make the definitive jump to the Liga Endesa.
