Matchday 7 of the EuroLeague has two MVPs. TJ Shorts of Valencia Basket and Zach LeDay of Hapoel Tel Aviv finished tied with a 33 rating, the best of the matchday, and share an award that no other pair of players had split this season.
Shorts' award has a special flavor. The American point guard returned to Paris, the city where he was a star, and led Valencia to victory (93-104) in just 24 minutes: 25 points on 7-of-11 from two-point range, 2-of-3 from three-point range and 5-of-5 from the free throw line, plus 9 assists and 4 rebounds. It is the seventh Matchday MVP of his career, and five of the previous ones he won wearing Paris' jersey. Additionally, he leads the EuroLeague in assists with 6.1 per game.
LeDay Earns His Fifth MVP
LeDay was the leader of Hapoel's comeback against Virtus Bologna, coached by Àlex Mumbrú (90-81), which had trailed by 13 points. The power forward scored 22 points on 4-of-7 from two-point range, 2-of-5 from three-point range and 8-of-9 from the free throw line, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out 4 assists and drew 6 fouls. It is the fifth Matchday MVP of his career, following one with Olympiacos and three with Olimpia Milano, and the second Hapoel player to win it this season, after Elijah Bryant in Matchdays 2 and 3.
