Tristan Vukcevic and Trendon Watford on Real Madrid's Radar

Real Madrid continues to scout the interior player market, and in recent hours two names from the NBA have emerged: academy product Tristan Vukcevic and free agent Trendon Watford. Their contractual situations, however, are very different.

Real Madrid keeps accumulating options to strengthen its frontcourt. According to information reported by Rumores de Basket, various media outlets have linked the club with Tristan Vukcevic, currently with the Washington Wizards, and Trendon Watford, who just completed the last season with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The most familiar option for Madrid fans is Vukcevic. The 23-year-old center standing 2.13 meters came through Real Madrid's academy and made his debut with the first team before leaving the club in 2022 to join Partizan Belgrade. He later made the jump to the NBA, where he has been gaining playing time in Washington's rebuild.

During the 2025/26 season, he appeared in 49 games with the Wizards, twelve of them as a starter, averaging 9 points, 3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 13.7 minutes. Additionally, he shot 47.9% from the field, 34.7% from three-point range and 78.4% from the free throw line.

His arrival, however, presents a significant obstacle. Washington converted his two-way contract into a standard three-year deal worth approximately nine million dollars in February, with a team option in the final year. Therefore, Vukcevic is not a free agent and any return to Europe would require prior agreement with the Wizards.

Watford, a more accessible option

Trendon Watford's situation is different. The 25-year-old American power forward standing 2.03 meters became available after Philadelphia declined its team option for the 2026/27 season. That circumstance would facilitate a possible direct negotiation with the player, although his priority could still be finding a new opportunity in the NBA.

Watford appeared in 53 games with the Sixers during the past season, seven of them as a starter. He averaged 6.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 16.3 minutes, shooting 51.5% from the field, a modest 20% from three-point range and 77.9% from the free throw line.

He is a mobile big man with the ability to put the ball on the floor, create off the dribble and participate in ball movement. His game does not fit the typical profile of a stretch power forward exclusively for shooting, but rather that of a versatile player who can initiate transitions, attack from the perimeter and perform multiple offensive roles.

For now, both names should be considered in the realm of market movements and there is no confirmation of advanced negotiations. Vukcevic would mean recovering a player developed in-house with academy status, but his contract with Washington complicates the deal. Watford, on the other hand, is a free agent and would be a more viable addition from a contractual standpoint.
