Trump Signs Executive Order to Regulate College Sports

Por ·

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order aimed at curbing the growing financial arms race in college sports, introducing new regulations that directly affect student-athletes and universities.

Among the main measures, the new regulation establishes that college athletes will only be able to transfer to another university once before graduation without having to sit out a year of inactivity. Additionally, athletes will only be able to compete for a maximum of five seasons within a five-year period.

The order also includes an enforcement mechanism to ensure compliance. The federal government will be able to withdraw funding from universities that do not comply with the new rules, which increases the potential impact of the measure on the college sports system.

The new rules will take effect on August 1st and are part of an attempt to place limits on the growing financial impact that has transformed college sports in recent years.
