Valencia Basket to Sign Oumar Ballo, Loan Him to Galatasaray

Valencia Basket is close to securing center Oumar Ballo, 24, 7'0", in a move designed for the medium term rather than immediate roster needs. The player will sign a multi-year contract with the Spanish club. The twist: Ballo won't stay in Valencia initially but will be loaned to Galatasaray, where he can earn playing time and continue developing in a competitive environment.

The move makes sense from a planning perspective. Valencia secures a big man with ACB roster spot eligibility, despite being born in Mali, thanks to his development at Canterbury Academy in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In a market where interior roster spots carry significant value, the Spanish club gets ahead of the curve and controls his rights.

Ballo comes from Pallacanestro Cantù, where he averaged 11 points and 8 rebounds last season. He previously played college basketball in the United States, including a stint at Gonzaga, as part of a trajectory still in the professional consolidation phase.

The loan to Galatasaray could be an important step. Ballo needs continuity, responsibility, and real playing time to continue developing his game. Valencia, meanwhile, buys time and avoids forcing his immediate integration into a roster that already has a defined structure.

If the deal closes on these terms, the Spanish club will have signed a center with future potential, roster spot eligibility, and room to grow—but his immediate development will happen in Turkey.
