GIRONA. Bàsquet Girona put the perfect finishing touch on the 2025-26 season with an 82-77 victory over Asisa Joventut at Fontajau. Moncho Fernández's team snapped a four-game losing streak, reached their best-ever Liga Endesa record with 14 wins, and confirmed the growth of a project that had already secured the best regular-season finish in club history.
The Girona side found their primary offensive leaders in Ike Iroegbu Needham and Markel Hugues on a night marked by three-point accuracy and an impressive performance against one of the league's hottest teams.
The game started with a last-minute absence of Ricky Rubio due to a coaching decision and featured a very high offensive pace from beyond the arc. Both teams began exchanging three-pointers in a dynamic and entertaining opening.
Asisa Joventut appeared to take control after a 0-7 run that gave them a small lead midway through the first quarter, but Bàsquet Girona responded immediately with an 8-0 run to close the period ahead (21-18).
The difference was in perimeter shooting. The home team struggled to find accuracy near the basket, but compensated with outstanding efficiency from three-point range.
The second quarter maintained the same dynamic. Hugues punished the opposition repeatedly from beyond the arc and forced Dani Miret to call a timeout when the home team threatened to open up the lead.
Penya reacted and managed to take the lead thanks to the leadership of Jabari Parker, who was very active throughout the first half. However, the Girona side continued finding answers from three-point range and went into halftime with a lead (44-42).
The game's decisive moment came after the halftime break.
Bàsquet Girona put on a spectacular offensive basketball display and built a devastating run powered by their three-point accuracy. Needham, Livingston, and Susinskas continuously punished opponents from beyond the arc and pushed the lead to unexpected levels.
The home team strung together an 18-0 run between the end of the second quarter and the start of the third that completely changed the game. The advantage grew progressively until reaching twenty points (70-50), while Joventut accumulated errors and watched the game slip away.
The third quarter ended with a commanding 70-52 that appeared to have the game all but decided.
However, Asisa Joventut reacted in the fourth quarter. The green-and-blacks elevated their defensive intensity and found quick points thanks to Sam Dekker Hunt and Jabari Parker, considerably reducing the deficit.
Penya got to within seven points and threatened a comeback that could have completely changed the outcome.
But Bàsquet Girona kept their composure. Livingston steadied the home team during the most difficult moments, and Needham sealed the victory with another crucial three-pointer in the final minutes.
The American point guard finished as the leading scorer for the Catalan side with 17 points, while Hugues added 16 in another strong performance. For Asisa Joventut, Jabari Parker stood out with 19 points.
With this victory, Bàsquet Girona closes the season with the best record in their Liga Endesa history and leaves behind a rough stretch to say goodbye to their fans with a smile. Asisa Joventut, meanwhile, could not extend their winning streak, though they have secured sixth place in the standings heading into the Playoffs.
