LUGO. Río Breogán will lose one of the most important players in its perimeter rotation immediately. Keandre Cook will leave the Lugo-based team after reaching an agreement to join Hapoel Tel Aviv, a move that will keep the American out of Saturday's game against Unicaja Málaga.
The agreement between both entities is practically closed and only awaits Breogán receiving the agreed financial compensation, which would be around €40,000, to officially finalize the operation. The departure comes after several weeks in which the player had regained prominence and performance, coinciding with the collective high point of the team coached by Luis Casimiro.
Cook closes his spell in Lugo after playing 31 games in the light blue jersey, averaging 10.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 11.1 efficiency rating in just over 20 minutes per game. Although his campaign was marked by some inconsistency, the American shooting guard had notably raised his level in Breogán's recent matches.
The wing will now return to Israeli basketball, a league he knows well after standing out last season at Ironi Kiryat Ata, where he shone with 19.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. His performance there sparked the interest of several European teams, and ultimately Hapoel Tel Aviv will secure his services.
The Israeli team has been one of the major protagonists of the continental season, even leading phases of the EuroLeague before being eliminated in the quarterfinals by Real Madrid. His arrival strengthens the perimeter of a team with ambitions to fight for top positions in Europe again.
Cook's departure will now force Río Breogán to face the final stretch of the season with a shorter perimeter rotation, just when the team was going through one of its best competitive moments of the season.
