ASVEL 82-84 Crvena Zvezda: Chris Jones Hits Game-Winner in Lyon

Por ·

With seconds remaining and the score tied at 82, ASVEL had possession after a timeout called by Tony Parker. Crvena Zvezda's defense held firm, Semi Ojeleye grabbed the rebound and found Chris Jones. The point guard, familiar with the Astroballe from his time with ASVEL, crossed the court unhurried, accelerated at the last moment, and rose for a mid-range shot. The basket fell as the buzzer sounded: 82-84 and a third consecutive victory for Ibon Navarro's team.

The victory is even more impressive given how Crvena Zvezda arrived in Lyon. Without Ebuka Izundu, Johnathan Motley, or Stefan Miljenovic, Navarro had no natural centers, and his team had to compete with small-ball lineups for all 40 minutes.

They compensated with three-point shooting and the accuracy of their wings: Chima Moneke led all scorers with 18 points, Jordan Nwora added 17, and Ojeleye contributed 15.

The game was a constant back-and-forth. Moneke hit three three-pointers in just over a minute in the first quarter, which Crvena Zvezda closed leading 23-26. In the second, ASVEL found its rhythm with a 17-4 run that gave them a 37-30 lead.

Two consecutive three-pointers by Ognjen Dobrić halted the French surge (41-38), and halftime arrived with ASVEL up 46-42.

After the break, neither team could pull away. The third quarter ended with ASVEL up one point (67-66), and in the fourth Both Gach, the best of the French with 19 points, put his team ahead with a three-pointer for 73-71.

From there, the game was decided basket-for-basket until 82-82. Tremont Waters, with 15 points, was the other pillar for ASVEL, who finish with two wins and three losses.
