sep 27 2026With two minutes remaining, San Pablo Burgos led 93-84 and appeared to have the game under control. They lost it. Baskonia claimed victory at the Coliseum 97-98 with a decisive and-one from Damion Baugh down the stretch, as DJ Steward's final attempt missed.
A Vitoria Start
The visiting team controlled the opening. Sekou Doumbouya opened the scoring, but Chris Duarte and Tadas Sedekerskis punished to make it 4-11. Koprivica and Rubén Guerrero kept the home side competitive, though the first quarter closed at 22-30.
In the second period, a three-pointer from Stewart and the contribution of Clément Frisch extended the lead to eleven points (30-41) and forced Porfi Fisac to make adjustments.
That's when Burgos responded. With Doumbouya taking charge and Dani Díez and Ziga Samar bringing the team closer, the hosts cut it to four (39-43) and reached halftime with that same margin (45-49) after having been down eleven.
The Third Quarter Changed Everything
San Pablo turned the game around in a high-level period. Taboada and Koprivica tied it at 49, and a three-pointer from Chase Audige put the Burgos side ahead (57-55).
From there, they accelerated. With Samar, Lobaco, and Steward leading the way, the team opened an eleven-point gap (68-57) and entered the final quarter up ten (75-65).
And the Fourth, Too
The lead stayed around ten points for much of the period. With just over two minutes remaining, the scoreboard read 93-84.
Then AJ Lawson appeared. The wing strung together several plays to tie the game at 93 with two minutes left. Steward restored the home advantage (96-93), but Kobi Simmons and Baugh put the Vitoria side back ahead with the decisive and-one for 97-98.
With thirteen seconds remaining, Steward had the final possession. His shot didn't fall.
The Numbers
Ziga Samar led all scorers with 17 points, followed by DJ Steward with 15 and Chris Sengfelder with 13.
For Baskonia, Chris Duarte, AJ Lawson, and Kenneth Faried each scored 13, Frisch added 11, and Simmons 10.
