jul 16 2026Chris Duarte will continue in the Liga Endesa and make the jump to EuroLeague with Baskonia. The Dominican wing has reached an agreement with the Vitoria-based club for one season with an option for another, after parting ways with Unicaja.
The Málaga club announced the player's departure on Thursday, as he had a high-value contract for the upcoming season. According to reports, Unicaja will pay the Dominican player a sum under $400,000 to settle the termination, well below the $1.2 million net he was set to earn.
The move became possible because Duarte already had his new destination lined up. Additionally, no clause preventing his signing by another Spanish club was reported, which allowed Baskonia to bring him in without having to pay a transfer fee.
For Duarte, the move to Vitoria represents an important opportunity: he will remain in the ACB, as he desired, and will be able to compete in EuroLeague. For Baskonia, it is a quality reinforcement on the perimeter, with athleticism, NBA experience, and the ability to score from multiple positions.
Unicaja, meanwhile, frees itself from a significant financial burden, while Baskonia adds a high-profile perimeter piece to its new project.
