ago 05 2026Maccabi Tel Aviv has officially announced the signing of Daniel Theis for the next two seasons. The 34-year-old German center, standing 2.03 meters tall, arrives after a solid stint with AS Monaco, where he once again proved he remains a heavyweight player in European basketball.
Theis averaged 9.7 points, 5 rebounds and 0.8 blocks across 38 EuroLeague games last season. But it's more than just numbers. At Monaco, he was a key piece on a French championship team with recent involvement in Europe's biggest competitions.
For Maccabi, this signing makes considerable sense. Head coach Oded Kattash's team is adding a center with experience, physicality, defensive intelligence and the ability to play both near the rim and in more spread-out situations. He can switch on defense, set solid screens, run the floor and punish from outside if given space.
Kattash himself highlighted precisely that mix of experience and versatility. Theis has played in the NBA, in EuroLeague and with the German national team, with whom he won the World Championship in 2023 and the European Championship in 2025. He's a player accustomed to competing at the highest levels.
Before his stint in Monaco, Theis spent eight seasons in the NBA with teams including the Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Clippers. In Europe, he also left his mark at Brose Bamberg, where he won three consecutive German league titles.
Maccabi needed to strengthen the paint with a reliable player ready to perform from day one. Theis doesn't arrive as a gamble, but as a proven center with craft and still enough energy to play an important role in EuroLeague.
