Dragan Apic crosses the Atlantic. The Serbian center has signed with the Soles de Mexicali and will compete next season in the Mexican LNBP, an unprecedented destination in a career that until now had developed entirely in Europe. He leaves behind two seasons at Río Breogán, from which he parted ways this summer.
He won't arrive alone in Baja California. In Mexicali, he will reunite with Jordan Sakho, with whom he shared a locker room at the Lugo club.
Two years of quiet work in Lugo
Apic arrived at Pazo dos Deportes in the summer of 2024, coming from French Le Mans and after a career path through Estrella Roja, FMP, Lokomotiv Kuban, Budućnost, and Polish Zastal. He was already familiar with the Liga Endesa: he had played the 2019-20 season with San Pablo Burgos.
His first season in Galicia was one of consolidation. He played all 34 league games with six points and three rebounds in fifteen minutes, a rotation role that he fulfilled with enough consistency for the club to renew him in June 2025 along with Aranitovic, Mavra, and Kurucs.
A new destination for a veteran of European basketball
At 30 years old, the 2.06-meter interior born in Novi Sad faces his first experience outside the continent in fourteen seasons as a professional. His résumé includes the ABA League leading scorer award in 2019, the championship and cup with Budućnost in Montenegro in 2021, and a spot on the Polish league's All-Star team in 2022.
The Soles, for their part, are one of the most decorated franchises in Mexican basketball, with four LNBP championships in their trophy case.
