Dubai Signs Toko Shengelia, Continues Elevating Project Ahead of EuroLeague Entry

Dubai Basketball continues building an impactful roster for its EuroLeague arrival. The club has officially announced the signing of Toko Shengelia, one of the most important power forwards in European basketball over the past decade. The contract length has not been announced.

The move reunites Shengelia with Xavi Pascual, with whom he played last season at FC Barcelona. The Georgian arrives in Dubai at 34 years old, but still with very high competitive presence and experience that is difficult to match in the European market.

His last season at Barcelona produced solid EuroLeague numbers: 12.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 15.4 efficiency rating in 34 games. In the Liga Endesa he also had an impact, with 11.2 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists, helping the blaugrana team reach the final.

Dubai is not just signing production. Dubai is signing hierarchy. Shengelia will face his 14th EuroLeague season and will do so at his sixth club in the competition, after stints at Spirou Charleroi, Baskonia, CSKA Moscow, Virtus Bologna and FC Barcelona. His career places him among the great modern big men of the tournament: seventh all-time in accumulated efficiency rating, ninth in scoring and twelfth in rebounds.

He also arrives with an extensive winning history. He was a member of the EuroLeague All-Star Five, two-time Player of the Month, ACB League champion with Baskonia, VTB League champion with CSKA, EuroCup champion with Virtus and MVP of the Italian League Finals in 2025.

For Dubai, this is another signing with a clear message. The club does not want to limit itself to participating in the EuroLeague, but rather to enter the competitive conversation as soon as possible. It has already added important names, and Shengelia brings something that is not easily purchased: craftsmanship, basketball intelligence, character and many years of deciding big games.

In the new project he will also reunite with former teammates like Mam Jaiteh, Awudu Abass and Davis Bertans. Dubai continues assembling proven talent, and with Shengelia adds a first-rate piece for the frontcourt.
