Fenerbahçe has found reinforcement for its frontcourt in the NBA. According to Basketnews, the Turkish club is finalizing the signing of Dwight Powell, a Canadian center with 13 seasons in the American league, on a one-year contract. Negotiations have been ongoing and Powell had attracted interest from other EuroLeague teams, but the agreement with the Istanbul club is close to being sealed.
Powell, 35, has been a free agent since the latest NBA roster cuts before the start of the season. He will join a Fenerbahçe that, after a strong start, has suffered two consecutive defeats during a double-header week against Valencia Basket and Real Madrid, and shares a 6-3 record with four other teams.

A Mavericks Staple
Powell spent more than a decade with the Dallas Mavericks, where he earned his place as a reliable rotation player thanks to his energy, physicality, and team-oriented play. His greatest strength is the pick-and-roll: he sets solid screens, rolls to the basket, and finishes alley-oops with high efficiency. He ranks fourth in field-goal percentage in franchise history (60.6%), and between 2018 and 2020 he even surpassed 70% from the field.
He was part of the team that reached the 2024 Finals and also stands out for his consistency: in the 2021-22 season, he played all 100 games for the Mavericks between the regular season and playoffs. Last season, in a reduced role, he averaged 3.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in 14 minutes.
At Fenerbahçe, his ability to switch on defense against smaller players and his experience in a team-oriented system could facilitate his adaptation to the EuroLeague.
