Barcelona Seeks Final Roster Pieces from NBA to Complete Reconstruction

FC Barcelona Basket is in the final stretch of its rebuild. After a summer of major changes—11 departures, a coaching change, and new sporting direction—the Catalan club is still working to bring in two reinforcements to complete Aleksander Sekulic's roster.

Xevi Pujol, the new sporting director, made it clear during his presentation: Barcelona needs "a couple of pieces." The European market is already well advanced, so the club is looking especially toward the United States, where opportunities in the NBA could still emerge.

The clearest priority is in the paint. Barcelona needs a center to complete the rotation alongside Josh Nebo and Olek Balcerowski, after Moses Wright's departure forced the club to reopen that search even before the season began.

Among the names that have surfaced, Drew Eubanks is one of the most proven profiles. A 2.08-meter center with 426 NBA games of experience and averages of 5.6 points and 4.3 rebounds in the American league, he fits a fairly specific idea: physical, mobile, and with high-level competitive knowledge.

Another name that appeals is Norchad Omier, a 24-year-old Nicaraguan big man who recently debuted in the NBA with the Los Angeles Clippers. His numbers there were modest—2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds—but his profile goes beyond that small sample: a strong, mobile player, good rebounder, and capable of playing at a high pace.

The situation with non-EU players will also be important. Justin Robinson and Tyrese Martin now occupy those two spots for the Liga Endesa, though Barcelona has coexisted with more players of this type in other seasons with rotations adjusted for domestic competition.

Toko Shengelia's departure to Dubai Basketball also opens another need at power forward. Tosan Evbuomwan has already arrived at the Palau, but the club could seek another big man to complete that position alongside Olivier Nkamhoua and add more depth to a roster that wants to operate around 15 players.

Barcelona has changed almost everything. Now it needs to get the final moves right. These won't be minor signings: they must solidify the paint, balance the rotation, and give Sekulic a sufficiently deep roster to compete in the Liga Endesa and EuroLeague from day one.
