Mario Hezonja's NBA Clause Saga Intensifies: Real Madrid Holds Strong Position

Mario Hezonja's future remains uncertain and increasingly complicated. The Croatian wing informed Real Madrid of his intention to exercise his NBA clause, but his departure is far from settled and the Spanish club retains significant leverage.

According to Eurohoops, Hezonja wants to give himself another opportunity in the NBA, though he currently has no signed contract in place. The Cleveland Cavaliers are among the teams monitoring his situation, though their interest is also conditioned by what may happen with LeBron James.

The key issue lies in the procedure. The move to the NBA can be activated via clause, but if the player doesn't end up signing an actual contract in the American league, the scenario becomes complicated. Additionally, Real Madrid believes the clause execution must meet the specified conditions and that, until properly resolved, it maintains a strong position.

It's also been ruled out that the case could be easily resolved through some kind of NBA bridge contract, such as a two-way or Exhibit 10 deal, only to cut the player and allow him to immediately return to Europe. According to sources cited from the United States, such a maneuver could raise suspicions within the NBA and potentially lead to an investigation or sanctions.

Hezonja's intention appears clear: attempt to return to American basketball. But without a firm NBA contract, his departure from Real Madrid remains questionable. And if he ultimately ends up returning to Europe sooner rather than later, the Spanish club could claim compensation.

The case, therefore, remains unresolved. Hezonja is betting on himself and the NBA, but Real Madrid still holds important cards.
