Mateo Díaz Renews with Flexicar Fuenlabrada for Next Season

In the league's top 10 in rating, scoring, assists, defensive rebounds, and fouls drawn. This is the calling card of Mateo Díaz, the 24-year-old Argentine point guard who has renewed with Flexicar Fuenlabrada for the upcoming campaign.

Mateo Díaz has signed his renewal with Flexicar Fuenlabrada. In this way, the player from Gualeguaychu will experience his third season as a local at the Fernando Martín arena, surrounded by fans who are watching him grow with every step. A growth that has led him to make his debut as an international with Argentina's national team in the past season.

Díaz, 24 years old and 1.88 meters tall, comes off his best campaign in the Primera Federación, in line with the continuous growth he has been developing in his career. This is reflected in his statistics with 13 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, with a 38.7 percent three-point shooting percentage and 85 percent from the free throw line.

Numerical performance that has placed him among the top ten in the competition in such diverse categories as defensive rebounds (7th) and assists (9th). Not to mention that he was the 5th most valued, the 8th leading scorer, or the 4th with the most fouls drawn in the Primera Federación.

After starting to play professionally at a young age in Argentina, Díaz made the jump to Spain with Breogán Lugo. With the Galician team, he played the 2020/2021 season, which resulted in the team's promotion to the ACB. In the following season, he also played in the Primera FEB on loan at Cáceres, gaining increasing playing time.

In the 2022/2023 season, after being the leading scorer (10.3 points per game) and second-leading assist provider (3.6 assists) for Almansa in the Primera FEB, he played the final stretch of the Colombian league with Motilones del Norte, averaging 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals per game.

In Fuenlabrada's 2023/24 season, he shared playmaking duties with Tomás Bellas, maintaining a notable level in scoring (8.4 points per game average) and outstanding in rebounding (4 rebounds per game average) for a rating of 9.1 per game. He returned to our club last summer after playing for Gipuzkoa Basket in the 2024/25 season.

Díaz also has international experience with Argentine youth national teams. He competed in the U-17 and U-19 World Championships and won a silver medal at the South American U-17 Championship.
