Real Madrid Negotiates Lonnie Walker Signing

Real Madrid is working on signing Lonnie Walker, according to reports from Chema de Lucas. The club is seeking an impactful perimeter player following Mario Hezonja's departure, and the American appears as a strong option to strengthen head coach Pedro Martínez's roster.

Walker, 27 years old and 1.93 meters tall, comes off playing the 2025/26 season with Maccabi Tel Aviv. In EuroLeague, he appeared in 28 games and averaged 15.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 22.8 minutes, shooting 35.1% from three-point range. He also competed in the Israeli league, where he posted 15.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists, shooting 40.7% from beyond the arc.

His profile fits what Real Madrid needs after Hezonja's departure: a perimeter player with scoring punch, physicality, the ability to create his own shots and experience in demanding environments. He is not a low-volume player, but rather a scorer who can take over games off the dribble, from three-point range or in transition.

Before arriving in Europe, Walker accumulated extensive NBA experience with the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers. His time in the United States made him a known name, but his stint with Maccabi confirmed he can also produce in the EuroLeague context.

The negotiation is not yet finalized, but the name carries weight. If Real Madrid manages to advance in talks, they would be adding a perimeter player very different from the profiles already signed this summer: more explosive, more vertical and with immediate scoring capacity.

In the midst of a rebuild, the club needs to replace talent. And Lonnie Walker would be a clear bet on scoring and perimeter threat.
