The Spanish club is currently in a standoff with the Croatian wing and his new agent, Misko Raznatovic, after the player communicated his intention to execute his NBA clause to become a free agent just before the deadline on Monday.
The issue lies in the procedure. According to ACB regulations, when a player executes an NBA exit clause, the communication must be accompanied by payment of that amount. Simply notifying the club is not enough. In other competitions, the procedure may allow for communication first, then the invoice, and finally the transfer, but under ACB rules the payment must occur simultaneously.
That is where Real Madrid believes it holds a strong position. Hezonja would have communicated his departure, but has not yet paid the €850,000 set in his clause. Until that payment is made, the Spanish club considers the player remains contractually bound.
According to MARCA, one possible solution would be for Hezonja to pay an amount higher than the initial clause to unlock the conflict and finalize his departure. Real Madrid, therefore, does not consider the case resolved and maintains the upper hand in a negotiation that has become complicated in recent hours.
The player's intention is clear: to leave for the NBA. But Real Madrid is not willing to accept an incomplete execution of the clause. The Hezonja case thus enters a legal and financial phase that could shape the Spanish transfer market.
