Laurynas Birutis, EuroLeague Giant Joins Casademont Zaragoza's Interior

Casademont Zaragoza has reached an agreement with Lithuanian center Laurynas Birutis (2.13m, 1997) to join the club's roster for the 2026/2027 season. With the arrival of the Baltic big man, the red-and-white squad completes its roster, securing a player with outstanding physical credentials, elite play above the rim, and extensive competitive experience at the highest level of European basketball.

For Birutis, arriving at Príncipe Felipe is not a new experience in Spain. The center already demonstrated his immense value in the Liga Endesa during his successful stint with Monbus Obradoiro (2020-2022). In his debut in Spanish competition, he made an immediate impact by earning ACB MVP honors in September, averaging a dominant 19.3 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 block per game. His consistency in the paint and exceptional two-point shooting efficiency made him one of the most sought-after centers in the league.

Birutis arrives from the historic Zalgiris Kaunas, where he has played for the last four seasons at the highest level. During the 2025/2026 EuroLeague season, he appeared in 41 games, posting an impressive 69.2% field goal percentage on two-pointers. His career-high in Europe's top competition came with 28 efficiency rating points against Fenerbahçe, demonstrating his ability to decide games against the continent's elite teams.

Additionally, his resume is backed by more than 30 appearances in FIBA windows and tournaments with Lithuania's senior national team, having progressed through all youth categories of the Baltic squad. At the U-20 European Championship in Finland (2016), he won the silver medal in the final against Spain (68-55).

Casademont Zaragoza's new center arrives with the winning mentality the project demands. His trophy case includes 4 Lithuanian League titles (LKL), 4 Mindaugas King's Cups (KMT), Lithuanian League MVP in the 2017/18 season at just 20 years old, and Mindaugas King's Cup MVP in 2024, all earned with Zalgiris Kaunas.

With the tower from Šiauliai, Casademont Zaragoza's coaching staff adds a game-changing piece to provide defensive solidity, rebounding strength, and low-post resources to a squad aiming to excite the red masses in the campaign that begins on August 17.
