Besiktas continues strengthening its roster for its return to the EuroLeague and has officially announced the signing of Eugene Omoruyi. The Canadian-Nigerian center arrives after his stint with Baskonia, where he made a strong impression in his first experience in Europe's top competition.
Omoruyi landed in Vitoria midway through last season, coming from Al Nasr Dubai, and gradually earned more playing time in the rotation. In 23 EuroLeague games with Baskonia, he averaged 10.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 20 minutes per game.
In the Liga Endesa, he also contributed in a more limited role, with 8.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. Before arriving in Europe, he accumulated NBA experience with the Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards, in addition to extensive time in the G League.
For Besiktas, his signing adds physicality, energy and scoring ability in the paint. Omoruyi is not a traditional center, but rather a powerful, mobile and aggressive profile capable of playing near the basket and creating space from interior positions.
The Turkish club thus adds another proven piece to compete in an increasingly demanding EuroLeague.
