EuroLeague: Barcelona Advances Nebo and Wright Signings, Now Focuses on Point Guard Search
FC Barcelona Bàsquet is working intensively on roster planning for next EuroLeague season. According to reports, the Catalan club has made significant progress on signings Moses Wright and Josh Nebo to strengthen the frontcourt, while now focusing much of its attention on finding a starting point guard.
The Catalan club faces an important summer of reconstruction, with plans to bring in seven or eight players to redesign the roster. Among the priorities are a starting point guard, two top-level centers, the wing to lead the perimeter, and a rotation piece that can complement Tornike Shengelia.
The contract situation of several players facilitates this process, as up to seven members of the current squad see their contracts expire next June. Additionally, the club maintains an exit option on Will Clyburn, which would expand the margin to carry out the roster overhaul.
At the point guard position, Barcelona had made significant progress in negotiations with Sylvain Francisco, currently at Žalgiris Kaunas. However, the player recently changed agents and has decided to wait for possible NBA offers before defining his future in Europe. That situation has led the Catalan club to explore other alternatives, including Mike James.
Where there do appear to be concrete advances is in the paint. Barcelona would have agreements in place for the signings of Wright and Nebo for the summer. Wright is having a standout season at Žalgiris, where he has established himself as one of the most dynamic big men in the competition.
Meanwhile, Nebo currently plays for Olimpia Milano and would be considering a change of scenery. The center, who will turn 29 next July, is averaging 11 points and 5.5 rebounds this season in the EuroLeague. Additionally, his Slovenian passport allows him not to take up a non-EU roster spot in the ACB, a factor that would facilitate his fit with the Barcelona squad.
