First double-week of the season delivers mixed results for Spanish teams: Valencia stays unbeaten as the only perfect team, while Real Madrid and Baskonia remain winless. The matchday also featured two records and a dominant performance in Athens.
The Spanish Teams
Valencia 111-88 Baskonia. The record-breaking game. The orange squad posted the highest-scoring performance in their EuroLeague history, with a dominant 26-10 first quarter that decided the contest early. Seven players in double figures and thirteen three-pointers made. Baskonia remains winless.
Dubai 94-87 Barcelona. Second Spanish team to fall in Dubai in six days. The blaugrana won the first quarter but conceded a devastating 29-12 second quarter that left them down fifteen at halftime. They played with Balcerowski as their only healthy center. Punter finished with 25 points and brought the team within six.
Anadolu Efes 94-84 Real Madrid. Real Madrid's worst performance of the season. Twenty-one turnovers converted into thirty Turkish points and a 23-12 second quarter. Nick Smith Jr. made his debut with 10 points and Campazzo led the team with 16, but Luwawu-Cabarrot posted a -10 rating.
The Other Two Records
Maccabi 93-109 Besiktas. First victory for the Turkish club since their return thirteen years ago, and the first time in their history they've surpassed 100 points in the EuroLeague. Seventeen three-pointers on thirty attempts. Brown and Wilbekin, former Maccabi player, each scored 20.
Panathinaikos 102-79 ASVEL. Second consecutive dominant display from Obradovic's team, again without Nunn, Sloukas, Hayes-Davis, or Fall. A 25-13 opening run and a twenty-two point halftime lead. Francisco finished with 19 points.
The Thriller Games
Zalgiris 91-93 Olympiacos. Twenty-one lead changes and a finish decided in the final four seconds: Brown hit a three-pointer for 91-92, Fournier missed the second free throw, and Vezenkov grabbed the offensive rebound over Valanciunas.
Crvena Zvezda 80-81 Hapoel Tel Aviv. Micic decided with two three-pointers against his former team and Ibon Navarro's squad fell one point short after rallying back ten points in 76 seconds. Second home loss for the Vitoria-based coach.
Olimpia Milano 87-85 Virtus Bologna. Italian derby decided by Devon Hall at the buzzer, after Diarra tied it with four seconds remaining.
And the Final Two
Fenerbahce 100-76 Bayern. A 31-15 first quarter settled the game. The Turkish side remains unbeaten and Bayern suffers their first loss.
Paris 79-92 Partizan. A three-pointer by Lakic from eleven meters at the halftime buzzer changed the game. Carlik Jones finished with 20 points; Vildoza added 16 with six steals, a personal record.
