may 25 2026ATHENS. Sergio Scariolo delivered a message of pride and ambition following Real Madrid's loss to Olympiacos (92-85) in the EuroLeague final at the Telekom Center Athens.
The Italian head coach highlighted the enormous competitive effort of a team that arrived severely depleted in the paint and still fought the game down to the final possession. "Yes, we were up to the task," Scariolo responded when asked about his team's performance in the championship game. "Unfortunately, not until the last second. We missed a three-pointer to tie the game. We were there. We competed against a great team, a powerhouse".
The Real Madrid coach also wanted to acknowledge Olympiacos' recent dominance in European basketball. "They've been dominating the competition for about five years," said the 65-year-old coach.
