Francis Alonso Wins Matchday 3 MVP: 30 Rating in 21 Minutes

After 132 games in the Liga Endesa with no Player of the Matchday award, Francis Alonso finally gets his recognition at age 30 and in the best form of his career. The shooting guard from Málaga earned the honor with a stellar performance against FIATC Girona: 27 points and a 30 rating that fueled Río Breogán's historic start—undefeated with over 100 points in each of their three games.

What stands out most about his performance is how little time he needed to produce it. He played 20 minutes and 52 seconds. In that span, he made 6 of his 8 three-pointers, 4 of 7 two-point shots, and his only free throw, while also dishing out 5 assists, recording 3 steals, and grabbing 2 rebounds—both on the offensive glass. With him on the court, Breogán outscored their opponent by 13 points.

His night, moreover, was far from linear. He started strong: in the ten minutes he played in the first half, he had already accumulated 20 rating, with a second quarter in which he was on the court for just four minutes yet managed to add 11. After halftime, he went completely cold. He didn't score in the third quarter and finished that stretch with a negative rating. But in the fourth quarter, he reappeared like no one else: 15 points in six and a half minutes, including the basket and free throw that pushed Breogán over the 100-point mark.

The award comes at the peak of his powers. Last season he was the Liga Endesa's leading scorer, and in the final matchday, he posted his best numbers in the competition: 33 points and a 35 rating. Against Girona, he came close to both marks. His current form is that of the reference player for a Breogán team that, under head coach Luis Casimiro, has never started a season this way in its sixty-year history.
