The Charlotte Hornets have locked in their franchise player. Brandon Miller has signed a five-year, $209 million extension, confirmed by his agents AJ Vaynerchuk and Joey Middleton to ESPN. The deal came just one hour before the deadline to renew rookie contracts expired.
The context explains the investment. Charlotte traded LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves this summer and has decided to build its project around Miller, the No. 2 pick in the 2023 Draft, and Kon Knueppel. According to NBA Maniacs, the Hornets completed the offseason with the arrival of Naz Reid and the extension of Coby White.
His best season yet
The extension rewards a 2025-26 season in which Miller took a significant step forward. He played 65 games, all as a starter, and averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists, shooting 38.3% from three-point range and nearly 90% from the free throw line. His impact was evident in the standings: the Hornets won 41 of the 65 games he played in and just 3 of the 17 games he missed.

The only concern is his durability. In January 2025, he suffered a right wrist ligament injury and missed the rest of the season. Last season he started with a left shoulder subluxation that sidelined him for 13 games, and in May he underwent surgery to stabilize that joint. He has already returned to play in the preseason, appearing in three games.
With this contract, Miller will earn $1 million more than Amen Thompson, who signed a $208 million deal with the Rockets. He is the seventh player from his draft class to extend this year, alongside Wembanyama, the Thompson twins, Keyonte George, Brandin Podziemski and Cason Wallace.
