Iñaki Martín Named First FEB Division Coach of the Month for April

The head coach of Flexicar Fuenlabrada has been awarded by the Spanish Basketball Coaches Association after finishing the month with a 4-1 record, securing the Madrid team's playoff berth.

April, the month of rains and changes. The fourth month of the year is characterized by its weather instability and frequent rainfall, as reflected in the Spanish saying "En abril, aguas mil" (April showers bring May flowers). However, this was not the case in the city of Fuenlabrada. The Madrid-based team began the month with cloudy skies following their defeat in their visit to Zamora (80-79), but those clouds quickly gave way to clear skies accompanied by four consecutive victories.

Two of those triumphs came away from the Fernando Martín arena, against Oviedo (65-73) and Cantabria (80-89). The other two came before their home crowd, and they were no minor victories—the first against one of the top favorites for direct promotion, Leyma Coruña (75-74), and the last, against Cartagena (91-82), which served to celebrate their playoff qualification after Zamora's defeat on matchday 32.

In this way, the skies cleared definitively in the Madrid city. All of this thanks to the adjustments made by Iñaki Martín during the month of April, adapting the team to the new additions of Prince Ali and Augusto Lima. Furthermore, his influence has also been reflected in several press conferences, where he has made his demands clear. He expressed this after the victory against Leyma Coruña: "I've been in a foul mood all week so the team would understand that this wasn't a transition game."

Despite the recognition, Iñaki Martín is a man who acknowledges the effort and merit of the other members of his coaching staff. After the victory against Cartagena, the coach stated the following in the press conference: "First of all, and that's why I've called them here, (...) I want to thank all those guys I have there. Obviously the ones with the orange ball are the main artists, they are the players, but I believe that without this incredible coaching staff that helps me (...) we wouldn't have reached an objective that was really unthinkable in the summer. So many thanks to the assistant coaches, Borja González de Mendoza and David Gallego, delegate Dani Valero, the strength coach, without him we wouldn't be competing as well as we are Javi Rubio, with brutal experience, and then our craft Fran Ponce."

It is worth noting that this is not the first time this season that Iñaki Martín has received this award, as he was also recognized in October following a 4-0 start to the campaign. Now, the coach faces the final stretch of the season, with two matchdays remaining, although his team will only play one, due to rest on matchday 33, before the Madrid derby against Movistar Estudiantes on May 8.
