Joe Ingles Returns to Australia: Former NBA Veteran Signs with Melbourne United After 12 Seasons
Joe Ingles will end his NBA career to return to Australian basketball. Melbourne United has announced the signing of the veteran Australian player, 38, who signs a two-year deal after playing over 800 games and completing 12 seasons in the NBA.
The Australian international will return to the NBL, the competition where he began his professional career in 2006 with the South Dragons, the team with which he won the championship in 2009. "Coming back home, to Melbourne, feels incredibly special. My professional career started here almost 20 years ago," Ingles said after his signing was made official.
Before establishing himself in the NBA, Joe Ingles developed a notable career in Europe, playing for CB Granada, FC Barcelona, and Maccabi Tel Aviv. He subsequently played for the Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, and Minnesota Timberwolves, becoming one of the most recognized Australian players of the past decade.
His achievements include winning the EuroLeague in 2014 and the bronze medal with Australia at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, the greatest success in the history of Australian men's basketball.
