Joel Bolomboy Moves Away from Unicaja, Set to Stay with ASVEL

Unicaja appears to have lost one of its options to strengthen its frontcourt. According to La Opinión de Málaga, Joel Bolomboy, with whom the Málaga club had made significant progress in negotiations, is now set to remain with ASVEL Villeurbanne.

The 32-year-old center, standing 2.04 meters tall, saw his contract with Estrella Roja expire on June 30 and had previously reached a preliminary agreement with ASVEL. However, serious financial problems that emerged at the French club and a significant reduction in its budget cast doubt on many of the moves made during the summer.

That situation opened the door for Unicaja. The Málaga club entered the picture and, according to La Opinión de Málaga, reached an agreement with Bolomboy. The operation seemed to be on track until ASVEL intervened in recent hours.

Tony Parker's club needs to maintain a core group of players to face the upcoming EuroLeague season, and Bolomboy would be one of those selected to remain in Villeurbanne, thus frustrating Unicaja's options.

The Ukrainian international, who also holds American and Russian nationalities, arrived on the market after three seasons with Estrella Roja. His last European campaign was heavily limited, playing just two EuroLeague games in which he averaged 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist.
