Jonas Valanciunas is heading back to Europe. Krepsinis.net reports that the Lithuanian center has agreed to a two-year deal with Zalgiris Kaunas, ending a long stint in the NBA.
The move marks the return of one of Europe's premier big men of his generation to continental basketball. Valanciunas has been in the NBA since 2012, playing for the Toronto Raptors, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, Washington Wizards, Sacramento Kings, and Denver Nuggets.
The deal was finalized after the player cleared waivers following his departure from Denver. Zalgiris already had an offer prepared and ultimately convinced the center to return to Lithuania.
For Zalgiris, his signing is a major coup. NBA experience, size, rebounding, interior play, and an obvious emotional connection to Lithuanian basketball. A heavyweight return for the EuroLeague.
