jul 22 2026On Wednesday, July 22, the Spanish Basketball Federation announced the official roster for the upcoming windows ahead of the 2027 Qatar World Cup. The announcement was made at Iberia España headquarters.
Head coach Chus Mateo's Spanish national team will be comprised of the following 15 players: Santi Aldama, Izan Almansa, Darío Brizuela, Álvaro Cárdenas, Alberto Díaz, Hugo González, Juancho Hernangómez, Willy Hernangómez, Sergio de Larrea, Baba Miller, Aday Mara, Joel Parra, Jaime Pradilla, Mario Saint-Supéry, and Santi Yusta.
Elisa Aguilar, president of the Spanish Basketball Federation, also attended the official roster announcement and thanked Iberia for hosting the event to reveal the men's national team roster for these second windows. La Familia arrives with an exceptional first phase after achieving a record of five wins and one loss. "This window will be essential to confirm the national team's qualification for the World Cup next summer," said the FEB president.
The Spanish head coach emphasized the complexity of having NBA players and players making their debut this season available for these windows. He noted they stayed in contact with them "without bothering them too much," especially during the Summer League, which Aday Mara, Baba Miller, and Sergio de Larrea competed in for the first time. Chus Mateo also made clear that "there has been total cooperation from the franchises to have them available."
Regarding what these new players making their international debut can contribute, the coach highlighted that these young players bring essential boldness to the national team and that these players don't "shrink" in the face of major events. The coach also mentioned the importance of combining the fearlessness of the younger players with the experience of those with more games under their belts.
Another major topic of the roster announcement was the presence of center Aday Mara, who will be able to make his debut with the senior national team in these windows. Additionally, he will have the opportunity to do so at home in Zaragoza, where the player began his professional basketball career.
Regarding the contribution the 2.21-meter center can make, Chus Mateo highlighted that "If there's something Aday does well, I can tell you it's one of his greatest strengths, it's passing the ball (...) I'm convinced he will be an important player and the ball will have to go through his hands, whether in the low post or the high post."
With these additions and new signings, the Spanish National Team will face Portugal on August 28 in Zaragoza at the Pabellón Príncipe Felipe, and Greece on August 31 at the Telekom Center Athens, formerly known as the Olympic Indoor Hall or OAKA Indoor Hall.
